Computer illiteracy…

Standard

Have a look at this and tell me if you think it looks familiar?

It’s funny, but when you have to teach someone who thinks the disc holder is a coffee holder it can take the fun out. I had a similar experience this week and I know I am not the most patient person, but I am a good teacher so when people do not understand after showing them how to do something for the 10th time I start to lose my temper in a big way. Surely these days when you hire someone to do typing you test them before you hire them? Not only can some people not type fast enough, but there are people who absolutely SUCK at spelling. I know there is spell check, but it would not hurt to learn to spell the word busy and almond which just by the way are not spelt bissy and almont. There are simple commands everybody should know how to use on a computer. If you do not know how to double click or open a browser or even how to browse on Google then you should sign up for computer lessons ASAP! I do not care if you worked behind a take away counter for 10 years and never worked on a computer, then why apply for a job where you have to work on a computer? These days businesses do not have the time to help you and teach you how to use a computer properly.

I suppose not everyone is literate so you cannot expect everyone to be computer literate. Like my friend said, how in this day and age can you afford to be computer illiterate? Has anyone else encountered people like this? Does it frustrate you when you show someone how to do something repeatedly and they just do not get it?

  1. lol, completely with you on this one! Deal with it everyday. But I noticed that people that are not technical people, you can forget to get them on the same level than you. But yes the only way to teach them is, v.e.e.e.r.r.r.y.y.y sloooowlyyy. 🙂

    • I suppose if people are not technical it can take them some time to learn, but of course if you have not worked on a computer in 10 years how can you expect to learn in one afternoon? You can be as enthusiastic and optimistic as you like but it ain’t going to happen!

  2. I’m teaching G to type up documents. WOW he types REALLY slow, o——-n——–e key at a time LOL and most of the time I have to show him every time what to do.

He is better on a phone. But it comes down to practice AS WELL! If one doesn’t practice then it takes you longer.

No one taught me how to work a pc, that’s all me & practice baby!
